MAT 248 - Probability and Statistics This course introduces the essentials of probability theory and elementary statistics. Topics include an introduction to descriptive and inferential statistics; sample space and events, probability axioms, and counting techniques; conditional probability and independence, and Bayes’ Theorem; discrete random variables, distribution functions and moments, and Binomial and Poisson Distributions; continuous random variables, densities and moments, normal, gamma, and exponential distributions unions; the Central Limit Theorem; confidence intervals; hypothesis testing and p-values; regression and correlation. Prerequisite: MAT 171 3 lecture hours 3 credit hours
