CHE 114 - Principles of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry

This course is primarily intended for students pursuing Nursing and Health Science Degrees. CHE 114 is an introductory study of the basic concepts of organic and biochemistry oriented toward the health-related fields. Topics include nomenclature, reactions, and stereochemistry of the major classes of organic compounds; the basic chemistry of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and enzymes in relationship to the metabolism of living organisms. This course includes a laboratory section that has experiments and activities specifically designed to facilitate knowledge acquisition of course subject matter. Students who have not had high school chemistry are recommended to take CHE 101 . Students must register for a lab component of this course.
