HRS 103 - Honors Seminar in Cross-Cultural Study ▲ = Fulfills a General Education Requirement. To help students appreciate the complexity and diversity of other cultures, this course will focus on a specific topic each semester and explore it from multiple cultural perspectives. Attention will be paid to the contexts that help inform and shape the views of particular cultures on a given topic and related issues. Topics include: Gender and Sexuality, Peace Studies, Race and Ethnicity in American Culture, Religious Fundamentalisms in the Modern World, U.S. Immigrant Cultures, Contemporary World Film. To promote closer student/faculty collaboration and encourage independent learning, the class is conducted in a seminar format, emphasizing in-depth discussion and higher level thinking skills in an active learning environment. Prerequisites: A minimum GPA of 3.4, 12 credits completed, and permission of the Dean of American Honors. 3 lecture hours per week. 3 credit hours
