Program Description


The Liberal Studies program is designed to be a flexible, transfer-oriented curriculum for students who want to complete a broad-based general education foundation before majoring in a specific academic discipline. This program is ideal for those students who would like to complete an Associate in Science program, and transfer to a baccalaureate degree program. This degree is awarded upon satisfactory completion of no fewer than 60 credit hours selected from the various disciplines of the College.

Upon successful completion of all program requirements, graduates will be able to:

  • Communicate clearly orally and in writing;
  • Implement critical-thinking, problem-solving, and technological skills for the purpose of learning and research;
  • Demonstrate college-level competency in historical knowledge;
  • Recognize and explain approaches from the humanities and social sciences to analyze the impact of human and social behaviors;
  • Recognize and explain ethical implications of everyday issues;
  • Discuss and implement mathematical methods to solve problems.

After Union County College


Graduates can transfer to a four-year college or university and are eligible to take advantage of the many transfer/articulation agreements Union County College has with some of the top four-year colleges and universities in the country. See a transfer advisor for details.
