PNU 193 - Adult Health I


In this course, the student will continue to apply the National League for Nursing (NLN) Competencies and Integrating Concepts. Using the nursing process, students will assist patients in acute care, long term care, and maternal and child health settings. Emphasis will be placed on patient assessment and an understanding of the common conditions that alter an individual’s state of wellness.  Care of patients pre- and postoperatively, and those experiencing fluid and electrolyte imbalances, infectious diseases, and selected cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and endocrine deviations will be discussed throughout this course. Principles of clinical reasoning and therapeutic communication will support the acquisition of content be stressed throughout the course.  Content presented in the classroom will be reinforced with in practice in the skills laboratory and clinical experiences in patient care settings where students will apply basic nursing principles and techniques. Supporting the NLN Competencies and Integrating Concepts, the QSEN competencies and National Patient Safety Goals are discussed.
Prerequisite(s): BIO 106 , ENG 101 , PSY 101 , and PNU 192
