PNU 213 - Adult Health III


This course focuses on advanced concepts in Practical Nursing and maintaining optimal functioning of client with complex health conditions Students will continue to incorporate the National League for Nursing (NLN) Competencies and Integrating Concepts into the delivery of care. In collaboration with the clinical instructor, patient and interdisciplinary team, the student will be given the opportunity to demonstrate the use of critical thinking skills in collecting subjective and objective information, meeting and prioritizing care, evaluating outcomes of care, and reporting and documenting care. Concepts introduced in previous nursing courses are expanded and integrated into clinical and theory experiences. Emphasis in theory will be placed on more complex, acute medical-surgical health deviations, mental health disorders, and the assessment of medical and nursing interventions. Students will articulate the promotion, restoration and maintenance of health and discuss end of life issues including organ and tissue donation. Students will interpret how their nursing actions and care delivery will impact economics and analyze economics from a health care delivery system perspective. The nursing process, critical thinking, pharmacology, math and mental health are reinforced to improve quality, equity and safety in health care. Concepts of role transition. accountability, management, and leadership will be discussed, as well as skills required for obtaining employment in a health care agency. Supporting the NLN Competencies and Integrating Concepts, the QSEN competencies and National Patient Safety Goals are discussed.
